If there is something I’ve learned by sharing about my recipe for the best healthy cranberry sauce on social media is that CRANBERRIES ARE CONTROVERSIAL!
So, if you’re in the anti-cranberry sauce camp, you can skip this one! But if you’re like me and enjoy this seasonal, tangy treat, then keep on reading!
I must confess, I grew up actually requesting the can molded jello cranberry sauce holiday after holiday. Something about it I really enjoyed! Looking back it was probably the high amount of sugar it likely had..Orrr maybe the Jello texture!? I’m sure it was decent… but the recipe I’m sharing with you today is EXCELLENT!
Cranberry Sauce Recipe
This recipe is so easy, and you probably have most of the ingredients on hand already! You basically add fresh cranberries, a cubed apple, and orange juice & zest into a skillet. Let it cook down for a bit then mash it all together and add your maple syrup! Be like Justin Timberlake and say bye bye bye to the canned stuff!
Ingredients:
1 12 Oz Bag Fresh Cranberries
Juice from 2 oranges (or 1/2 Cup OJ)
Zest from 1 orange
1 red apple in 1/2 inch cubes
1/2-1 Cup Water
1/4 Cup Maple Syrup
1 tsp Sea Salt
Directions:
Add Cranberries, Orange Juice & Zest, Apple, and Water to a large skillet.
Heat on med-low, stirring occasionally, for about 20 minutes. You may need to add more water- About 1/2 to 1 more cup, gradually.
Once the cranberries have popped and the apple easily breaks when pressed, lower the heat. With the back of a fork or a masher, mash the sauce until it reaches your desired consistency.
Add more water if too thick, or turn on heat to reduce unwanted water.
Add Maple syrup & sea salt
Taste and adjust to your liking. THATS IT! ENJOY!
